Newcastle United will risk having star man suspended for European knockout rounds should he pick up a yellow card against AC Milan tomorrow.

Newcastle will be desperate for a win tomorrow which could see them progress into the Champions League knockouts if PSG fail to beat Dortmund, while Europa League will be guaranteed if they avoid defeat to Milan.

As per UEFA’s regulations, Bruno Guimaraes may be suspended for the first of those knockout games should he pick up a yellow card against Milan as the Newcastle man has already been booked against PSG and Dortmund.

Bruno would be a huge loss to Newcastle’s European dream

Although the fixtures would be scheduled for February when Newcastle will have a few more players returning from injury, the loss of Bruno would still be devastating for the team after his brilliant form this season.

Coming into this hectic campaign, the Brazilian was one of the few Newcastle players who had already experienced the intensity of the Champions League and understood what it takes to advance through the group.

Against Milan, Bruno will be walking a disciplinary tightrope avoiding that yellow card as he will know more than anyone how important it will be to have him in the Newcastle team regardless of what competition it is.

His ability to keep the ball under pressure and find an open man to set Newcastle away on the counter has been absolutely crucial for the Magpies since he signed from Lyon back in January 2022.

Newcastle need to make sure Bruno keeps his head against Milan

Bruno is a perfect example of the type of player the St James’ Park crowd want to have on the pitch in big games like this, someone who thrives under pressure and who can use the energy of the supporters to give himself a boost.

That’s all brilliant when momentum is in your favour and everything’s going your way, but what you don’t want to happen is for the Newcastle midfielder to almost lose control and go over the top against Milan, picking up a huge yellow card.

We’ve seen Bruno at times before where he looks like he’s practically begging the referee to book him – especially in the game against Arsenal where he was lucky to be staying on the pitch.
