Joe Willock has now returned to full training with the Newcastle United first team out in America.
As reported by The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, writing on his Twitter page, Joe Willock has joined up with the main group of Newcastle players today during an open training session.
Eddie Howe’s men are currently in the USA on a pre-season tour that has already seen them face Aston Villa, with Chelsea and Brighton still to come.
It will be a boost for the group to see Willock back to full fitness. The midfielder has been out of action with a hamstring injury sustained in the final weeks of last season. Prior to being sidelined, the 23-year-old had been a key figure for the Magpies. Willock made 43 appearances in all competitions across the course of the campaign, and chipped in with three goals and six assists.
He will be desperate to have an even bigger impact this time around.

A big season ahead for Joe Willock
Willock has been a regular in the side since his £25 million switch from Arsenal in the summer of 2021. However, he hasn’t been able to rediscover the blistering goalscoring form of his loan stint with club, prior to his stay being made permanent. He racked up eight Premier League goals in just 14 outings during that prolific period.
Whilst his contribution has been less obvious, Willock has remained a very important player under Howe. Ex-Manchester City defender and current BT Sport pundit Joleon Lescott doesn’t believe Willock always gets the credit he is due, and has labelled him “underrated” in the past.
Now he’s back in training, Willock is ready to kick on and show everyone just how good he really is.
