Newcastle United’s injury room is a dark closet of despair right now, metaphorically, obviously, I’m sure the actual place is lovely.
Sandro Tonali has joined the list of the walking wounded today but one man who has been on that list for a while is powering on with his recovery and is starting to look close to a return.
Posting a video of himself running on a treadmill out in Barcelona, Joe Willock has given out a positive message to his Instagram followers via a reel saying “I promise I will be back stronger.”
Willock has been missing since last season
Willock has been missing from action since the back-end of last season when he pulled up with a bad hamstring injury.
That injury kept Willock out of contention for the entirety of pre-season and the opening of the current campaign.

It was starting to look like a return to action as close for Willock but the 24-year-old former Arsenal man suffered a set-back by picking up an achilles injury. This latest knock was expected to keep Willock out for another six weeks.
While certainly not fit enough to face Brentford or AC Milan, there’s a slight bit of hope that Willock could be closer to a return than first thought judging by the pace he was going on the treadmill. Although there’s been no update on a return, so we could still be waiting until October before we see him in black and white again.
Newcastle have been missing Willock’s energy
Newcastle are missing Joe Willock’s energy in the side right now and while it will likely be Sean Longstaff who will deputise for the injured Tonali, Willock would definitely have been in contention were he fit.

In fact, there’s a lot of fans who’d love to see Willock back in our midfield in place of one of the current starters such is his importance to the side.
Hopefully it won’t be long before Willock is back in the line-up for Newcastle and helping the Magpies get some more points on the board this season.
