Callum Wilson will be hoping his goal-scoring antics this season will be enough for him to be involved in the Champions League clash with AC Milan tomorrow night.

Callum Wilson‘s superbly taken penalty was the difference between Newcastle and Brentford on Saturday evening after he saw a goal bizarrely chalked off for a foul that never was minutes before.

That was Wilson’s third goal of the season and it came on his first start of the campaign too.

Wilson trained away from the main group today

Now with a huge game tomorrow night at the San Siro in Milan, the £20million signing from Bournemouth will be hoping he’s done enough to secure his place in the starting line-up.

However, according to Keith Downie, there could be a slight cause for concern for the 31-year-old after posting on X that Wilson trained away from the main group this morning before heading out to Italy.

Downie’s post said: “Callum Wilson trained separately from the main group this morning, doing some light running, before #NUFC travel over here to Milan this afternoon to face @acmilan tomorrow night.”

As scary as that would be to read if it were any other player, it’s believed to be quite normal for Wilson.

Wilson will be ready to come on for Newcastle when called on

Given his injury record, Eddie Howe likes to make sure Wilson is looked after. Howe was concerned when he was away with England at the World Cup that he wasn’t following the plan Newcastle laid out for him.

So light duties after a game on Saturday is nothing so out of the ordinary, especially with another game in such quick succession.

It’s believed that Alexander Isak will be back in the starting line-up against Milan anyway, but Wilson will still be raring to go from off the bench.
