£20m Newcastle star does not want to leave SJP this summer

Callum Wilson is in stunning form for Newcastle United and now Dean Jones has shared what he thinks will be on the cards for him next season.

Transfer insider, Dean Jones has been speaking to GiveMeSport about Callum Wilson and what he believes will happen with the £20million former Bournemouth striker this summer.

With both he and Alexander Isak in inspiring form for Newcastle, and are dropping hints on the pitch that they could form an immense partnership, it looks very much like Callum Wilson is going nowhere.

Wilson just broke Alan Shearer’s record for goals scored in a calendar month

There were rumblings last month that Wilson had been bending Eddie Howe‘s ear about his lack of minutes and that grew into a story that he was gearing up to leave Newcastle. While it was probably true that Wilson wasn’t happy with his game time, the idea that it would force into moving was laughed off immediately.

Wilson used that frustration to fuel his form in April. The England striker bagged eight goals last month despite only starting two games. The competition for the starting spot between him and Isak has lit a fire in both of them and Newcastle are reaping the rewards.

With that in mind, Dean Jones has suggested that Wilson has no intention of moving this summer, saying: “Callum Wilson is always rising to the challenge at the moment and it probably is because he’s got that desire within him to prove that he doesn’t just want to be a bit part of this and knowing that it’s a really big project that’s just taking off, he wants to be around at Newcastle.”

The end of that statement is the big factor. The project is just starting and it’s already yielding positive results. If Wilson was to leave, it’s unlikely he’d end up anywhere with a similar trajectory as Newcastle.

Personally, I’m buzzing that Wilson has no intention of leaving. He’s only 13 goals away from becoming our second all-time top scorer in the Premier League behind Alan Shearer. The most recent player ahead of him is Papiss Cisse, showing just how long it has been since we had a top striker.

You can never count Wilson out. When you think his injuries will get the better of him, he bounces back. When you think his form has gone and he’s done, he bounces back. I think he’s got a couple more seasons left in him at Newcastle for sure.
