Newcastle United could receive some more positive injury news with the possible return of one player before the end of the month.

Having just lost Joelinton to another injury, Eddie Howe could use some positive updates regarding his players who are currently unavailable.

A report from The Athletic is now claiming that Wilson could make his return from injury against Fulham in the FA Cup after missing the first two games of 2023 for Newcastle.

Wilson’s injury record is causing major problems for Newcastle

Although he had a very positive season last year, making 31 appearances in the Premier League, Wilson just hasn’t been reliable enough during the new campaign for Newcastle.

His injury record is putting a lot of pressure on Alexander Isak to play most games knowing there’s no one to support him from the bench, and even his fitness record has been questionable.

There has been some talk about possibly replacing the Wilson in the summer, or perhaps adding a third-choice striker to add depth, but they are very hard to come by.

Howe simply cannot rely on both of these players to lead his Newcastle team for a full season as historically they are bound to miss nearly half of the games through injury.

Newcastle may have big boost by the end of January

There was concern that the £20m man may be out for the entirety of January, leaving Isak with a lot of work to do having already played the full 90 minutes against Sunderland and Liverpool.

However, Howe could have the attacker back in the fold by the time Newcastle make the trip to Craven Cottage on the weekend on the 27th, just a few days before taking on Aston Villa.

There is also hope that Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock will have recovered from their injuries by the end of the month, giving Howe as close to a fully fit squad as he’s had probably since the start of the season.
