After a goalscoring start to pre-season Newcastle United’s Elliot Anderson is hoping that will be the first of many for the Magpies this season.
Elliot Anderson scored Newcastle‘s first goal of the pre-season against Gateshead on Saturday and then turned provider as he put one on a plate for Allan Saint-Maximin to equalise before Jay Turner-Cooke volleyed home a sumptuous Lewis Miley pass to seal the win.
Anderson spoke to The Northern Echo about his plans for next season now he’s in and around that first-team set up.
Elliot Anderson knows what’s missing from his game
While there is still a possibility that he could be loaned out, it seems Anderson doesn’t feel that will happen saying: “As far as I know, I think I’m here.
“Hopefully, it’s just getting started for me. This season is more important than last season, and I really want to kick on and be part of the future here.

Anderson has a plan to keep himself at the forefront of Eddie Howe‘s mind when it comes to his Newcastle team selection: goals.
“I’ve spoken to a few of the coaches and I think I need to bring goals to the team really,” said Anderson.
“If you want to get in the team, you need to be scoring. That’s my ultimate aim, to put some chances away and hopefully we’ll get there.
“It’s something I’ve been thinking to myself, I need to score more goals to help me get in the team. I was a bit disappointed I didn’t get more (at Gateshead), but I’ll take the one and hopefully get more in the games to come.”
Newcastle fans will likely get plenty of opportunities to see Anderson next season
Anderson did miss an absolute sitter in the game against Gateshead, and still seems reluctant to shoot first time, but it’s clearly just a confidence thing and once he gets another couple of goals under his belt I’m sure he’ll take off.

Had the officials done their job properly last season and allowed Anderson’s goal against Nottingham Forest stand like it should have, it would likely have done the lad’s confidence wonders, but we’ll never know now.
With the congested fixture list that faces Newcastle next season I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of Anderson before May and we’ll see his stature in the game grow massively.
