Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after Mike Ashley released a statement on the Premier League’s decision to charge £14.95 for pay-per-view matches.
In his statement, Ashley laments the Premier League’s decision, saying that he feels it is unacceptable for any fan to pay such an amount to watch football in the current climate.

The Magpies chief also reveals that Newcastle voted for the pay-per-view option proposed by the Premier League, but only because there were no alternatives put forward that would allow fans to watch games.
Now, this statement has caused quite a stir among the St James’ Park faithful, who can’t quite believe what they’re seeing.
A number of supporters have expressed their shock at Ashley’s comments, with one even suggesting that his words are ‘100% lies’.
It seems that some fans think of him as greedy or money-orientated himself, hence their confusion at his comments which side with the working-class. Such a reputation is usually attached to a Premier League chairman given their wealth.

In Ashley’s case, perhaps the Newcastle fans think he’s greedy due to the previous sales of big-name players, such as Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye, in which money was seemingly prioritised over the footballing side of things.
