Lewis Miley is not the only teenager training with the Newcastle United first-team ahead of this weekend’s trip to Manchester City.

The club have released a selection of training photos as Eddie Howe’s players prepare for the game against the Premier League champions. Newcastle face Man City at 8pm on Saturday, much to the frustration of Pep Guardiola, who is not happy about the fixture scheduling.

That could give Newcastle an opportunity, as Howe looks to build on what was a really impressive start to the season.

After starring in pre-season, we did not see Miley involved against Aston Villa. Instead, he played 24 hours later for the Under-21s in a 5-3 win over Southampton.

He will hope to be involved at the Etihad this weekend, and he has been joined in training by another one of his Under-21 teammates.

Ben Parkinson trains with Newcastle ahead of Manchester City clash

Another Newcastle youngster has been spotted in training ahead of the Manchester City game.

18-year-old striker Ben Parkinson can be seen taking part in the club’s latest video on YouTube, having featured for the senior side in pre-season.

Parkinson got minutes out in America, and actually nearly scored during the 2-1 win over Brighton. He saw a header go narrowly over the bar.

But it was good for the forward to get senior minutes, and now he is getting the exposure of training with Howe and the first-team ahead of what will likely be the toughest game of the season.

It is great to see Parkinson involved, and hopefully he is someone who can rise through the ranks and become a first-team player at St James’ Park. We have seen Elliot Anderson do that under Howe, while huge things are expected from Miley.

Fingers crossed Parkinson can follow a similar path, and he will really benefit from training alongside star strikers like Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak. Their impact is already paying off, as Parkinson got on the scoresheet during the Magpies’ aforementioned youth win over Southampton on Sunday.

Given Newcastle’s strength in depth, it would be a shock to see Parkinson involved at the Etihad, but his time will come in the future.
