£17m ‘superstar’ Newcastle want to sign scores screamer on international duty yesterday

After reports that Newcastle United have held talks with Arda Guler’s representatives they may now have to expedite things a little bit.

Last night 18-year-old Arda Guler, who has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle in recent weeks, came off the bench for Turkey to score their second goal against Wales.

The Welsh rode their luck last night seeing Turkey have two goals chalked off by VAR and a penalty saved. The Wales side were also down to 10-men for most of the game after a harsh red-card was shown to Joe Morrell just before half-time.

Eventually Turkey would come away with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Umut Nayir and an absolute screamer from substitute, Arda Guler.

Guler’s superb curling effort was selected as a Goal of the Round contender via the Official Euro 2024 Twitter account.

There are said to be a few top clubs chasing Guler, and after seeing him come off the bench and hit a shot like that at just 18-years-old, there may be a few more clubs adding their names to the list of interested parties.

Arda Guler is available for around £17million thanks to a release clause inserted into his Fenerbahce contract, however the Turkish side are very keen to keep hold of him for another season.

That looks very unlikely unless whoever ends up winning the race for Guler loans him back to Fenerbahce for next season as part of the deal.

I’d be happy for Newcastle to come up with that sort of deal. In all likelihood he’d be loaned out by us anyway, despite clearly being first-team ready. We know Eddie Howe likes to bide his time introducing new players into the first-team set-up, especially youngsters, so giving him another year to develop in his homeland could be beneficial to all parties.

Guler has been said to already posses ‘superstar‘ qualities and has been likened to Lionel Messi. There are clips of him doing the rounds on Twitter which show exactly why he’s so sought after. Hopefully the previous talks Newcastle have had with his representatives and his family went extremely well and it’s us who can convince him that we’re his best bet for a next step.
