£13m Newcastle player could now be on the bench vs AC Milan after missing seven games

Newcastle United could be about to welcome another player back from injury against AC Milan on Wednesday night.

The Magpies have received a boost in recent days ahead of their massive Champions League game, with Sean Longstaff and Callum Wilson returning fitness.

They both featured off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, and it feels likely that Longstaff will come into Eddie Howe’s starting XI for the game against AC Milan.

As for Callum Wilson, he will probably be on the bench, where he could be joined by another player who has recently been struggling with injury.

Dan Burn could return for Newcastle against AC Milan

According to Newcastle World, there is a chance that Dan Burn could be on the Newcastle bench for the Champions League clash with AC Milan on Wednesday night.

The defender has been out of action with a back injury, having landed awkwardly during the 1-0 win over Arsenal back in November. It looked like a really bad injury at the time, and it has so far led to Burn missing seven games.

However, it might not become eight with Newcastle World suggesting that the £13million man could return to the squad this week.

In his absence, Tino Livramento has played at left-back and been brilliant. He was exceptional in the 1-0 win over Manchester United, for example.

It did look like Burn would struggle to get back in the starting lineup, but a door could open up for him this weekend.

After the AC Milan game, Newcastle take on Fulham at St James’ Park. Kieran Trippier will be suspended, having picked up his fifth booking of the season against Spurs.

With Trippier out, Livramento will likely return to the right of defence. That will mean there is a vacancy on the left, which could hand Burn an immediate route back into the starting XI.

This injury crisis has been gruelling, but there suddenly appears to be light at the end of the tunnel. Howe is finally getting players back to fitness, with Burn seemingly next in line to return to the fold.
