£13m Newcastle player could be about to receive a pay rise at St James’ Park

Less than one month ago, it was confirmed that Dan Burn’s Newcastle United contract had been extended.

When the club announced their retained list, they stated that Burn had activated a one-year extension in his deal after making a certain number of appearances.

That means that he will be a Newcastle player until 2025, but now the defender could be about to sign an even longer contract with his boyhood club.

According to Newcastle World, the club are in talks with Burn over an improved deal. They state that the club want to give him a new contract that reflects how important he is to Eddie Howe’s team.

Newcastle World add that it would likely see him stay at St James’ Park beyond 2025, which is when his current deal expires.

Despite only being at the club for a year and a half, Burn is a key player on Tyneside, both on and off the pitch. As a player, he has been exceptional. First at centre-back and then at left-back, he has been a picture of consistency since his £13million move from Brighton in January 2022.

Burn has been important off the pitch too, and has established himself as a key voice within the dressing room. He is part of Howe’s leadership group, and got the opportunity to wear the captain’s armband last season.

That is something he will hope to do again next season, where he will also get the chance to represent the Magpies in the Champions League. European nights inside St James’ Park are special, and Burn will be buzzing for them – like the rest of his teammates.

It has been claimed that Newcastle are looking to sign a new left-back this summer, but if anyone does arrive they will need to get past Burn. He made the position his own last season, and will expect to continue there when the new campaign begins.

And by the time it does start, he could have signed a new and improved contract.
