Newcastle face a stern test at Tottenham on Sunday, a week after the disappointment and anger of being thrashed by Premier League newcomers Norwich City.

To many neutrals it will look like an impossible task to win on their first visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and not many Newcastle fans would disagree.

But perhaps it could be just they type of game they need. One with little expectation, thus allowing them to simply give it a go, and play football.

There is most definitely a sense of ‘nothing to lose’ about it, and that is exactly the attitude we should be taking.

That said, no one is under any illusions of how difficult a game it promises to be. Here are what the experts are saying:

Lawrenson thinks Spurs have found their feet at their new home now, and that Newcastle are “still a bit all over the place”.

But he added: “They have already lost to Norwich and Arsenal but remember, former boss Rafael Benitez had a bad start last season and they picked things up.

“Steve Bruce has made some new signings and the fans just need to get behind the team now.”

The former Arsenal striker was more scathing in his assessment of Newcastle, and their chances against Tottenham.

He claimed Newcastle “lacked ambition and togetherness at Norwich”, and that he was “not impressed with Newcastle”, but said the finger should not just be pointed at the manager.

Looking at the strikers, he added: “Joelinton had no service at all and Miguel Almiron was the same. He is about pace and counter-attacking but couldn’t get in the game.

“They need to have more ambition when they have the ball. The problem is I don’t see them getting enough of the ball to trouble Spurs.”

Prediction: Tottenham 4-0 Newcastle

The former Wales international unsurprisingly expects Newcastle’s dismal run to continue, with their difficult trip to Tottenham.

He adds that the task has not been  made any easier with the return from suspension of Heung-Min Son.

Prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Newcastle
