Kylian Mbappe might be reconsidering joining Newcastle United now after tasting the St James’ Park atmosphere and seeing how good the side are.
Newcastle are always named when the future of Kylian Mbappe is mentioned by virtue of the fact that the current owners mean the club is one of the few who could realistically afford to take the France international away from Paris Saint-Germain. (Although Financial Fair Play would put an end to that dream straight away.)
A couple of years ago there was a famous video doing the rounds online where Antoine Greizmann had Mbappe in his Newcastle United side on Football Manager and when he told Mbappe about this, the striker responded with “Newcastle? It’s not so warm there is it?”.
The St James’ Park crowd roared Newcastle on to victory
After the absolutely incredible atmosphere tonight, and being on the wrong end of a Newcastle United hammering, perhaps the cold is something he’d be willing to put up with now.
Although, not so much tonight as while his teammates stayed out on the pitch to show their appreciation to the traveling PSG fans, Mbappe took off down the tunnel.
TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher was quick to point out his behaviour, saying: “Whether you read anything into it or not, the PSG players are all still out there. But Mbappe has gone straight down the tunnel to the dressing room. That sums up his night tonight.”
Mbappe must have been going to find Amanda Staveley at full-time
It was a miserable night for the 24-year-old as he barely even got a sniff in front of goal as Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles marshalled him out of the game.
Maybe Mbappe went down the tunnel early to find Amanda Staveley and ask if he can come to Newcastle in the summer.
Okay maybe not, but I dare bet his opinion of the club has gone up after tonight.
