What Bruno Guimaraes was thinking right before scoring Newcastle’s third goal vs Forest

Bruno Guimaraes has shared exactly what he was thinking before he netted Newcastle United’s third and winning goal against Nottingham Forest.

It’s not been the best season for the Brazilian in terms of goalscoring, but he was playing in a higher role against Forest and managed to triple his Premier League tally for the season.

Speaking to NUFCTV after the game, Bruno shared how he knew he had to take control of the game and the ball and find the back of the net to secure Newcastle all three points.

Bruno’s new role proves successful for Newcastle

With Newcastle’s midfield really struggling in the last run of games, Eddie Howe has been experimenting with the other options he has for his midfield three, pushing Bruno further up the pitch.

Against Luton, the former Lyon man played higher up and on the left where he grabbed that brilliant assist for Kieran Trippier’s goal and should have had another to win the game with Jacob Murphy.

While some believe he is more suited to a deeper role where he has played more often for Newcastle, Bruno has been able to show off his attacking flair in the last two games and the change in position has really benefitted him.

With still 25 minutes to play against Forest, Bruno felt somebody needed to take control of this hectic game and grabbed the ball on the edge of the box before finding the bottom corner of Matz Sels’ goal.

When asked about his second goal, Bruno said: “Yes, when I get the ball my first thought was oh I have to kick this I have to do this and it was an unbelievable goal. Celebrating in front of the fans is always special for me, this was one of my best moments here at the club, I enjoyed it a lot.”

Newcastle turn their away form around

After having the second worst away form in the Premier League, beaten only by Sheffield United’s record, Newcastle have now won four away games in a row in all competitions.

Some of their trips haven’t been easy either with Aston Villa being the best home team in the league coming into the game and Forest notoriously being a tough place to go for any team.

Ironically, now that they have solved their terrible away form out it is their form at St James’ Park that is proving to be underwhelming having not won since the 3-0 victory against Fulham in December.

But if they can recapture their best form at home then there’s still no telling where they could end up at the end of the season with European football still very much within their reach.
