Andy Carroll is back from injury as Newcastle head to his former club West Ham.
The striker missed the 1-1 draw with Wolves due to a groin strain, which left a lot of Toon fans thinking this was the beginning of another injury saga. But Carroll has trained ahead of the trip to London, and Steve Bruce confirmed that he’s back in contention.
This is a boost for Newcastle, who once again were poor going forward against Wolves. Is Carroll the answer to our problems? Who knows, but he hasn’t been bad in his four substitute appearances so far. Against Manchester United he was particularly impressive.
But he’ll face some familiar faces at the London Stadium, taking on the team who released him this summer.
Carroll spent seven years as a Hammer, scoring 34 times in all competitions. That’s one more than he has for the Magpies, scoring 33 times in his first spell.
And a lot of West Ham fans are worried that he’s going to get his first (second and third) goal of the season against his former side. Hopefully they’re right…
