It would be fair to say that Newcastle United did not impress on Sunday.
Newcastle United are now out of the FA Cup and, frankly, look in absolute disarray right now.
Indeed, Brighton beat Newcastle 2-1 on Sunday to reach the quarter-finals after an absolutely dreadful display from Eddie Howe’s side, which is sadly seemingly starting to become their default level of performance these days.
The defeat itself also wasn’t the most bruising part of the day. Anthony Gordon was sent off for a petulant and fully deserved red card and will duly miss the Carabao Cup final as a result. Alexander Isak, meanwhile, came off having needed treatment on the field following a knock.
Those are perhaps the major talking points but that shouldn’t mask what was a rather alarming display from some of Howe’s players.
One of those in Tino Livramento was slammed for his role in Danny Welbeck’s late winner at St James’ Park.

Tino Livramento slammed by Ian Wright and Roy Keane as Newcastle United lose to Brighton
Ian Wright and Roy Keane were on ITV’s punditry duty for the game.
Wright criticised the Newcastle fans for a lack of atmosphere, while Keane launched a scathing assessment of Newcastle’s substitutions against Brighton.
After the game, Livramento was the subject of their ire.
The defender was playing Welbeck onside in the dying embers of extra-time, failing to push up to join the rest of his teammates trying to play the Brighton forward offside.
To which Keane said: “He didn’t even try to step up there, he didn’t even try!”
Wright then added: “You can understand tiredness but that is unacceptable at this level. You’re talking about getting to the next round, you’ve got to step up. Matt Targett was in a position where Danny would have had to bend his run more.”
Tino Livramento injury is Newcastle United’s latest problem
All of Livramento, Lewis Hall and Kieran Trippier are suffering with injuries to some degree right now.
Livramento, as Howe confirmed, was suffering from cramp and Trippier “felt his back”. Hall, meanwhile, is set to see a specialist on an ankle injury suffered against Liverpool last time out in the Premier League.
That is brutal. The prospect of Matt Targett playing right-back was raised earlier this season and perhaps that will be needed with Dan Burn on the left, should all three aforementioned full-backs be ruled out.
Not ideal…
