If Newcastle are going to get anything against Wolves, they’ll need to stop a man they nearly signed once upon a time.
Willian Jose is the new man leading Wolves’ attack , with Raul Jimenez injured.
The Brazilian forward joined Wolves in January, but he’s a player who has been linked with a Premier League move for years.
In fact, he’s a player who has a long history with Newcastle United moves that failed to materialise.

In 2017, Newcastle United returned to the Premier League. But before they secured promotion, Rafa Benitez was already eyeing future signings.

According to reports, one man he was interested in was Willian Jose. He had just enjoyed his first season at Real Sociedad, netting 12 goals in 28 appearances.
The Magpies had competition though, as the striker was also a target for Everton and Southampton.

In the end, no one signed the £30million-rated Willian Jose, as he remained with the Basque club.
And instead, Newcastle brought in Joselu…
Willian Jose to Newcastle – round two
The following year, Willian Jose was linked with the Magpies again.
In an interview with Marca in 2019, he claimed that he actually turned down a move to St James’ Park the year before.
“I want to play one day in the Premier but now I’m happy here,” he said.
“I had an option to go to Newcastle last year. I’m happy at Real Sociedad and I ended up staying.”
His claims were backed up by the Chronicle last year, who claimed that Willian Jose was an option for Lee Charnley in 2018. However, Benitez wanted Salomon Rondon instead.

After years of being linked with a Premier League move, Willian Jose is finally here.
Sadly though, it’s for Wolves rather than Newcastle.
The 29-year-old has a big chance to show us what we’re missing this evening, as his new club head to St James’ Park.
He’s yet to score since arriving in England. Hopefully that hasn’t changed come full time.
