Newcastle United ensured they remained on course for a second Champions League qualification in three seasons by beating Ipswich.
Newcastle United were certainly made to work for their first goal in the opening exchanges at St James’ Park but Eddie Howe’s side eventually wrapped up what was a routine three points.
Indeed, Newcastle beat Ipswich 3-0 thanks to goals from Alexander Isak, Dan Burn and Will Osula.
It means they returned to third in the Premier League and are now in pole position to claim a top five berth, which would seal a return to the Champions League.

Having already won the Carabao Cup this season, getting back to Europe’s top table would be the icing on the cake of this most historic of campaigns.
Should they get there, pundit Tim Howard believes five players will have been crucial.

Tim Howard names five “incredible” Newcastle United players
The former Everton and Manchester United goalkeeper is now working as a pundit out in his native America.
Speaking while on NBC Sports, Howard talked of just how impressed he’s been by Isak, Harvey Barnes, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton.
He believes that quintet bring a perfect balance to Howe’s side and it’s certainly difficult to disagree.
“This was a great way to welcome back Eddie Howe,” he said.
“But the team is firing. You think about Isak and Barnes and the way that this midfield is shaped up, the balance they have is incredible.”
Newcastle United dealt major blow over “incredible” player
Sadly for Newcastle, one of those five is a major injury concern.
Joelinton is set to see a knee specialist in the coming days, having missed the win over Ipswich after pulling up in training.
| Player name | Matches played |
| Bruno Guimaraes | 34 |
| Dan Burn | 33 |
| Tino Livramento | 33 |
| Sandro Tonali | 32 |
| Alexander Isak | 31 |
| Jacob Murphy | 31 |
| Fabian Schar | 30 |
| Anthony Gordon | 30 |
| Joelinton | 29 |
| Harvey Barnes | 29 |
That would be a huge blow during what remains of the season.
Joe Willock has not been at his best this season and anything to impact Newcastle’s excellent blend of brains and brawn in midfield is most unwelcome.
Hopefully, the Brazilian can feature in at least one of the games. Newcastle will no doubt desperately need him.
