Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has heaped praise on Joelinton for his performance against Tottenham Hotspur today.

The Brazilian scored only his second Premier League goal of the season at St. James’ Park in a game that finished 2-2.

Joelinton’s inclusion in the starting XI was met with criticism before kick-off.

But the South American actually put in a commendable showing against Jose Mourinho’s side, and took his goal very well.

Alan Shearer tweeted that he felt it was Joelinton’s best game for Newcastle since arrival in 2019, and the sentiments were shared by Bruce.

He said of the 24-year-old (via Lee Ryder): “That was arguably as good I’ve seen Joelinton play for us.

“Probably the easiest thing to do is stick it in the net. His touch is immaculate.

“He plays with great effort and endeavour. But his all round game today was terrific.”

Better from Joelinton

His performance was not outstanding, but he was certainly much better than in recent games.

He took his goal like a seasoned finisher, and the hope now will be for him to take massive confidence from that and show a ruthless edge in the coming games.

Callum Wilson is almost ready to return, and it would be great if the England international could come back into the side to an in-form fellow attacker.
