Some Newcastle United fans have moved to praise Miguel Almiron for his performance last night, despite returning to losing ways.

The Magpies lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace at St. James’ Park in the Premier League, with the pressure cranking back up on manager Steve Bruce.

Newcastle actually took an early lead through Jonjo Shelvey, but the visitors replied through Jairo Riedewald first and then, minutes later, Gary Cahill from a set-piece.

Newcastle had plenty of chances in the game to get back on level terms, but were very wasteful against the Eagles.

With Wolves beating Arsenal earlier in the evening, the motivation was there for the Magpies.

Having taken an early lead through Shelvey and after beating in-form Everton at the weekend, to lose this game was bitterly disappointing.

Unlike some recent results though, there were actually some positives to take from the game with a number of players looking quite good.

One of those players was Miguel Almiron, who was a spark for the home side.

The Paraguay international linked up well with Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser, who was also very lively, and seems to be a lot more effective in that number 10 role.

He also showed good work rate which is something fairly typical of the South American.

On social media, he came in for praise from a number of Newcastle fans despite their frustration with the final result.
