Hardly a game has passed by without Joelinton receiving flack from Newcastle fans. And while the Manchester United defeat was no different, some supporters have actually defended the Brazilian.
Joelinton started the game really well, playing alongside Dwight Gayle for the first time. And after some good work from the number nine, he played in Gayle who shockingly blazed over.
But while Gayle robbed Joelinton of an assist, Matty Longstaff delivered, finding the bottom corner brilliantly after the striker’s layoff.
There were good moments from Joelinton, but far too many individual errors from his teammates allowed Manchester United to coast to victory.
By the end of the game, there was no actual desire to keep the ball. It was just being pumped forward at every opportunity, with Joelinton chasing shadows on his own.
It wasn’t a £40 million performance, but he certainly wasn’t the worst player in black and white. A lot of supporters have criticised Joelinton for his efforts at Old Trafford, although there were some who saw some positives in his performance.
