Newcastle United are out for Carabao Cup final revenge this afternoon as Manchester United visit St James’ Park and Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson has now shared how he sees the game going.
The former Tottenham defender is now part of the Sky Sports panel of pundits offering their insights into the weekend’s games in the run up to kick-off and providing updates during the games.
Speaking this morning ahead of the key clash between Newcastle and Man United, Dawson bucked the trend of the other pundits predicting a Newcastle victory, saying (via The Chronicle): “We’ve built them up since Erik ten Hag has come in.
Michael Dawson sees Newcastle falling to another defeat
“They (Man United) cruised the Carabao Cup final, in my opinion, and this is a replay of that. I thought they dominated the game.
“Casemiro is a big miss. It’s no surprise that, when he isn’t there, they struggle. Now they’re going to be without him again for a few games. McTominay was great for Scotland in the two (international) games so he will have big, big confidence from that.

“He’s going to be big in the middle of the park. I know you (other pundits) are all saying Newcastle, but I see Manchester United. This is a game where they can stamp their authority and say ‘this is how far we’ve come since the start of the season’.
“They’re going to have to step up because this is a tough place to go. A team that has certainly picked up since Isak came into the team.”
Alexander Isak will be a key figure for Newcastle
The rest of the Sky Sports News studio had Newcastle exacting their revenge for the cup final misery, especially thanks to Casemiro’s suspension, but Dawson was the outlier, the one who thinks Erik ten Hag‘s men will repeat the feat.
It’s interesting that Dawson picks out Scott McTominay as one to mention given the constant links with a move to Newcastle. This could essentially be his audition in front of the Toon Army.
I think without Casemiro, Man United look much weaker and Newcastle have Alexander Isak firing on all cylinders. We also have the St James’ Park faithful behind us and that’s going to be huge for this game I feel. Which is why I’m not too convinced by Dawson’s take.
I still say it’s not the end of the world if we don’t come away with all three points, but I am definitely backing us to do that today. I just have good feeling about it.
