Newcastle United continue to shine.

Eddie Howe’s side made it a record-equalling nine consecutive victories on Wednesday night when they beat Wolves 3-0 at St James’ Park.

Alexander Isak bagged another brace on a fine night for the Swede, with Newcastle now into the Premier League’s top four.

It was another brilliant night for the Newcastle United manager and things are starting to look like they did during the 2022-23 campaign.

On course for Champions League qualification and with one foot in the Carabao Cup final, Newcastle will take some beating right now.

Crucial to their recent success has been Martin Dubravka. The goalkeeper has stepped in to replace the injured Nick Pope of late and, while usually the understudy to the England international, has been in absolutely brilliant form.

So much so, in fact, that the club have reportedly offered him a new contract to get him to stay at the club this month rather than make a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.

Indeed, watching him in action on Wednesday night, former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given shared his view on Dubravka’s future.

Dubravka did pull off a brilliant save to keep Newcastle’s clean sheet in tact when the birthday boy denied Jorgen Strand Larsen from close range in the dying embers of the game.

Speaking on TNT Sports coverage, Given revealed he was of the belief Howe would be really pushing for Dubravka to get a new contract.

“I think even on the back of tonight’s performance, Eddie will be saying ‘Let’s give this guy a new contract, let’s keep him at the football club’”, he said.

What Martin Dubravka wants to stay at Newcastle United

Dubravka has been in such good form that it would be a major call for Howe to instantly drop him when Pope returns from injury at some point, thought to be reasonably soon.

For his part, the 36-year-old is understood to want assurances he will be given a chance to compete for a starting berth even when Pope is back in action.

Considering his recent form, that is certainly understandable…
