Newcastle United look to stretch their unbeaten run to seven Premier League games against Brentford this weekend.
The Magpies are in fine form, and could move further up the table with a win against the Bees.
The last time the two sides met was in November; Eddie Howe’s first as Toon boss. That game was a 3-3 thriller, back when Newcastle still hadn’t won a game all season.
Howe has massively improved his side since that day, and will be hoping for a fourth win in five games. But who will start for the Magpies?
Javi Manquillo returns
Javi Manquillo missed last weekend’s trip to West Ham, but is back in training for the clash with Brentford.
Following his injury against Aston Villa, Newcastle World reported that the Spaniard would miss two weeks of action. However, he’s been pictured alongside his teammates preparing for Saturday’s game.
If Manquillo is deemed fit, we expect him to take Emil Krafth’s place at right-back. The Swede performed okay against the Hammers, despite picking up an early booking for a foul on Michail Antonio. However, Manquillo is the superior player.
Bruno on the bench
Newcastle United fans are desperate to see more of Bruno Guimaraes. The January signing has been limited to three substitute appearances so far.
The Brazilian will be itching to start for his new club, but that likely won’t happen this weekend.
Howe’s midfield three of Joe Willock, Jonjo Shelvey and Joelinton are playing brilliantly – they’re undroppable right now.
Allan Saint-Maximin returns
Allan Saint-Maximin was the big miss against West Ham. However, he is expected to be back in the squad this weekend.
And if that’s the case, he should start. The 24-year-old should return to the left flank, taking Jacob Murphy’s place in the starting XI.
The £12million man did well in Saint-Maximin’s absence, but ASM is a guaranteed starter when fit. His return should give us a real lift in attack.
We also predict Ryan Fraser to be passed fit, keeping his place on the right wing.
