Reported Newcastle United target Jack Hendry had an afternoon to forget, as Scotland crashed to a 2-0 defeat in their Euro 2020 opener.
Steve Clarke’s side have got off to a bad start, with Patrick Schick scoring two fine goals at Hampden Park.
The Bayer Leverkusen star headed his country in front in the first-half, squeezing his effort into the far corner beyond David Marshall.
Schick then added, arguably, one of the best goals ever seen at a European Championship finals, lobbing Marshall from all of 50 yards.
His effort came as a result of Hendry trying his luck from long-range.
The central defender should probably have passed out wide.
The ball ricocheted into the path of Schick, who audaciously shot first time.
Hendry’s performance has been criticised by sections of the Scottish media following the game.
Edinburgh Live gave him a 5/10 rating. Despite him hitting the bar, they stated he lost his concentration a few times.
Newcastle may need to steer clear
Back in March, Newcastle were said to have been monitoring Hendry (Mirror).
On this evidence, perhaps the Magpies should be looking elsewhere.
The decision-making was a little suspect from Hendry.
Unless he two amazing games against England and Croatia, perhaps Newcastle should be looking at alternatives.
