Newcastle United return to Premier League action tonight, and take on Arsenal once again at the Emirates Stadium.
The Magpies will be looking for revenge after the Gunners dumped them out of the FA Cup, and Steve Bruce is desperate for three points.
It’s eight games without a win in all competitions now, and last week’s 1-0 defeat to bottom side Sheffield United was undoubtedly the lowest moment of the season so far.
Fans are expecting a huge response tonight – another defeat could spell real trouble for Bruce as manager of the football club.
In goal, Karl Darlow should be keeping his place having done nothing to warrant being dropped.
Bruce has hinted that the gloves are off and that change is in the offing. In that’s the case, he’ll go with a four-man defence and try and take the game to Arsenal.
DeAndre Yedlin, Federico Fernandez, Ciaran Clark and Jamal Lewis should be the chosen quartet – with Lewis, 22, given the opportunity to prove himself again having struggled in recent weeks.
In midfield, Isaac Hayden and Matty Longstaff could pair up with Miguel Almiron playing from the left.
Ideally the Paraguay international would feature in a number 10 role, but Ryan Fraser’s suspension may require him to do a job out wide.
Allan Saint-Maximin is said to be close to a return, but Bruce has spoken about the effect COVID-19 has had on the Frenchman, and he may not quite be ready to start.
Jacob Murphy could therefore get the nod, and it could be that Bruce pairs Andy Carroll and Callum Wilson together in attack.
£75,000-a-week star Carroll (Spotrac) was a real menace for Newcastle in the FA Cup game against Arsenal but just lacked that cutting edge, something Wilson could bring.
