Predicted Newcastle lineup to face Wolves: Chris Wood starts, Alexander Isak is a sub

Newcastle United are preparing to face Wolves on Sunday, with Eddie Howe boasting a new signing in his squad.

It’s been a dramatic week for the Magpies. It started with the thrilling 3-3 draw with Manchester City, then a club record deal was shockingly agreed for Alexander Isak.

After progressing through the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, progress was then made on the Isak deal, and he is now a Newcastle United player.

He’s available for the trip to Wolves, leaving Howe with a big decision to make.

With that in mind, this is our predicted Newcastle lineup to face Wolves

Dan Burn continues at left-back

While he was forced off against Manchester City after being smashed in the face with the ball, we anticipate Dan Burn to start against Wolves.

Howe has stated that he hopes Burn is available, refusing to rule out the lanky defender. We therefore expect him to continue at left-back, where he played against City and Brighton.

That means Matt Targett will be on the bench, despite making his return from injury in the 2-1 win over Tranmere.

Elliot Anderson hoping for minutes

Elliot Anderson made his first competitive start for Newcastle during the week, and impressed.

He’ll be hoping to get some minutes in the Premier League this weekend, but they won’t come from the start.

Howe’s midfield three worked brilliantly against Man City, and the trio of Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton should start again.

Chris Wood starts in place of Callum Wilson

The big decision for Howe lies up front. Callum Wilson has started every Premier League game so far this season, scoring twice.

However, he’s set for a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. Luckily, the Magpies have signed a new striker this week – £59million Alexander Isak.

While Howe will no doubt be tempted to throw the Swede straight into the action, it seems incredibly unlikely he will start.

Chris Wood should instead get the opportunity, having opened his account for the season with the winner against Tranmere. However, expect to see Isak make his Newcastle debut off the bench.

Predicted XI to play Wolves: Pope; Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn; Willock, Bruno, Joelinton; Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Wood.
