Eddie Howe may have bristled at suggestions that Newcastle United were put under siege by Burnley, but Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner did notice something.
On Tuesday, Newcastle United beat Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor to record only their second away win in the Premier League this season.
In truth, it wasn’t all that convincing, but Howe rejected claims his side faced an “onslaught” at the hands of the Clarets.
When asked about the game during his pre-match press conference before the Palace clash, Howe told a reporter: “There was no onslaught. Yes, we had moments of course, [but] we had moments the other way. I would never describe it as that. If it was an onslaught, I’d give you my opinion and say, ‘Yes. I thought it was’.”
Sound logic or stubbornness from Eddie Howe here?
Indeed, the Newcastle United manager certainly wasn’t pleased with the suggestion that his team were perhaps lucky to escape with all three points.
Newcastle will now hope to build on the victory by beating Palace at St James’ Park on Sunday and Glasner has given his view about it all.
Oliver Glasner spots Newcastle United weakness
Glasner was speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of Sunday’s game.
The Austrian largely praised Newcastle, particularly their home form.
He did, however, note that Burnley were able to create some good chances despite the fact they had fallen two goals behind after only seven minutes.
“[They play with] high intensity, huge pace, a clear 4-3-3, clear profile in the positions,” he said.
“If it’s Anthony Gordon or [Harvey] Barnes, it’s different – Nick Woltemade, the tall one, or [Yoane] Wissa, the quick one. Dominant midfield with Joelinton, [Sandro] Tonali, [Bruno] Guimarães. I think they have a few injuries at the back.
The XI we think Eddie Howe will name against Crystal Palace – what changes would you make? ⚫⚪
“But yeah, especially at home, playing man to man against you, always being under pressure, playing quick forward. They’re always pressure, pressure, pressure.
“But on the other side, I have in my mind, when I watched their Burnley game, that Burnley had a few good chances, that they also give you a few spaces with their attacking football.
“Then it’s up to us to take these spaces and take them for our advantage.”
The £35m boost Crystal Palace just got before playing Newcastle United
The Eagles could unleash a new signing in the form of Brennan Johnson on Sunday.
The Wales international completed his move to Selhurst Park from Tottenham for a fee widely reported to be around £35million.
Still, Johnson has never scored in eight games against Newcastle while playing for Nottingham Forest and Spurs.

On the flip side, Howe has been handed a boost of his own.
Ahead of the game, it was confirmed that Tino Livramento could play for Newcastle against Crystal Palace.
The defender has missed the last three games with a knee injury but could return for Sunday’s clash.
Kieran Trippier is also in contention, while there’s a chance that Sven Botman and Anthony Elanga may be included in the squad following recent knocks.
