‘No class’… Crystal Palace fans furious at what Newcastle United did at full-time

Newcastle United made light work of Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

Exactly one month after winning the Carabao Cup, the Newcastle United players ensured they keep their 100% record since the history-making Wembley success.

A rampant Newcastle thrashed Palace 5-0 on Wednesday night to move up to third in the Premier League and continue their march towards a second Champions League qualification in three seasons.

Indeed, it was certainly a difficult evening for the south London side.

Eberechi Eze missed an absolutely dreadful attempt at a penalty when the score was only 1-0, while former transfer target Marc Guehi scored another own goal against Newcastle – having already done so back in November.

A long journey and a convincing defeat was even made all the worse by the Newcastle PA at St James’ Park, who played Palace’s traditional club song ‘Glad All Over’ at the full-time whistle.

Naturally, Eagles supporters on social media were upset.

The song was played as soon as the whistle went, no doubt rubbing salt into the wounds following what had already been a miserable night.

“Newcastle have just mocked it. Put Glad all over on the speakers at full time,” said one fan.

Another wrote: “Playing glad all over at full time. We have been absolutely humbled.”

“They’re playing glad all over? Liquidate us please, I can’t go through this anymore,” added one upset Palace supporter.

“Newcastle playing glad all over my head is so hot,” raged another fan.

Another comment read: “Newcastle playing Glad all over at full time is peak banter…  I used to like them.”

One fan said: “Playing glad all over after beating us 5 0 just ain’t on absolutely no class what so ever.”

The Newcastle United star who split opinion against Crystal Palace

A poor night for Palace was a brilliant one for Newcastle. Now, it would seem a major disappointment to see them throw a Champions League spot away from here.

Still, it wasn’t a totally convincing performance from every home player. Newcastle fans are split on Nick Pope, who gave away the penalty Eze eventually missed by recklessly clattering into defender Chris Richards when trying to clear a floated free-kick.

Thankfully, Pope did at least save it.

Newcastle are expected to sign James Trafford this summer, albeit it’s not yet clear as to whether or not the highly-rated Burnley stopper would arrive as cover or competition for Pope in the immediate term.
