Newcastle United return to St James’ Park this Friday, facing off against Spanish side Girona.

As the countdown to the Premier League season edges ever closer, Newcastle United’s pre-season preparations are kicking up a notch.

Fresh from their 2-0 defeat against Yokohama F.Marinos, the Magpies now face their toughest test of the summer so far, in the shape of La Liga outfit Girona.

The clash against the Spanish side is one of two games at St James’ Park this weekend, as Eddie Howe’s side also plays host to French outfit Stade Brestois as part of the Sela Cup.

Newcastle’s game with Girona takes place on Friday, 9th August at St James’ Park.

The friendly is currently scheduled for a 7:30 PM (BST) kick-off.

Newcastle United’s clash with Yokohama F.Marinos gave Toon fans their first glimpse of new signing Lloyd Kelly. The former Bournemouth man played 45 minutes, as he returned from injury and he is expected to rack up further minutes against Girona and Stade Brestois.

The Yokohama defeat also saw the return of Bruno Guimaraes, who returned from an extended break following his involvement at this summer’s Copa America. The Brazilian will likely start against Girona as he looks to get back up to speed ahead of the new season.

New shot-stopper Odysseas Vlachodimos may also feature as he battles out it with Nick Pope for the Newcastle number-one spot.
