It was another important win for Newcastle United this weekend, although the performance wasn’t exactly the kind to set the world alight.
Newcastle United got the three points against Burnley, that’s the main thing. However, the Magpies once again showed complacency towards the end of the game.

It’s a result that helps Newcastle climb the Premier League table and close the gap on the teams above them. There were also plenty of positives for Eddie Howe to take away from the game.
While Howe believed Anthony Gordon was the star, however, the Geordie Boot Boys readers have sent a clear message that the manager was wrong.

Bruno Guimaraes head and shoulders above the rest
After the game, we asked our readers to name their Man of the Match. Unsurprisingly, they’ve picked Bruno Guimaraes as the winner.
The Newcastle captain received a massive 245 votes and 65.51% of the total response from the fanbase. Gordon was second-best, but had almost a third of Bruno’s votes with 24.87% of the poll (93 votes).
Tino Livramento was third with just over 7% meaning it’s absolutely clear that the two goalscorers have once again stolen the show.
One fan was so passionate about Guimaraes winning that they even wrote: “It was our influential skipper Bruno.”
The supporters aren’t the only ones to praise Bruno, either. Dion Dublin said Guimaraes is the ‘spark’ at Newcastle and that he constantly makes things happen.
Bruno Guimaraes is on fire
That’s now five goals for the season for Bruno Guimaraes. That’s as many as Guimaraes scored in the 2024/25 campaign in its entirety, so he’s obviously going to exceed that tally this term.
He’s clearly the beating heart of the Newcastle team. In fact, Newcastle do not win when Bruno doesn’t start, which says it all.

If he can keep up this level of performance over the coming weeks and months, there is no reason Newcastle can’t get into the top five come the end of the season.
The only problem is, Guimaraes has called out complacency in his teammates. He must now find a way to shake them out of that and take the team to the next level.
