Newcastle United head to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday in need of a victory.
After breathing fresh life into their season before the international break with three consecutive victories against big-name opposition, Newcastle were dealt a reality check on Monday when they lost at home to West Ham.
It underlined the issue Eddie Howe has in maintaining consistency. Just when it looks like his side can put pressure on those chasing the Premier League’s top four, they fluff their lines and let supporters down.
While Newcastle’s away record leaves a lot to be desired having won only two of their games on the road this season, there’s a relative amount of pressure on their trip to Selhurst Park.
Palace are struggling towards the bottom of the league and failure to win there would be a blow, particularly with a difficult looking game against Liverpool to come on Wednesday.

With that in mind, supporters were delighted to see Sandro Tonali start for the club away at Palace.
Newcastle fans react as Sandro Tonali starts against Crystal Palace
The Italian, who hasn’t started in the Premier League since the defeat at Chelsea last month, comes into the team alongside Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock, despite their knocks against the Hammers.
On social media, fans were delighted.
“Tonali starting?! This is not a DRILL,” joked one fan.
Another exclaimed: “Toonali!”
“He’s picked the team the fans want”, declared one particularly happy fan.
“At last! Our best available players on the pitch”, added another.
One fan declared: “That’s absolutely stunning that is.”
“Get in Tonali,” added someone of a similar mind.
“Tonali scores today,” predicted one confident supporter.
Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes have something to prove at Newcastle

There have long been doubts as to whether or not Newcastle’s two star midfielders can play together.
While not to doubt either’s quality, it just hasn’t worked on a consistent basis thus far. Hopefully, with Willock also providing running power, that starts to change at Palace.
Tonali is said to have trained well this week. It’s time to see the partnership click into gear on the pitch.
