Newcastle release brilliant footage of Miguel Almiron goal vs Benfica

Miguel Almiron was the star for Newcastle United against Benfica, scoring two goals.

The Paraguayan wasn’t initially meant to start, but replaced Jacob Murphy shortly before kickoff. It’s a decision that paid off, with Miggy bagging a brilliant brace inside the Estadio Da Luiz.

The 28-year-old is having a pre-season to remember in black and white. He’s now scored six goals, as well as providing two assists.

His contribution against Benfica is the pick of the bunch, scoring two really good goals against a very strong side.

Both goals were set up by Kieran Trippier, who appears to be building a good understanding with Almiron. That was very evident against Benfica, and the defender couldn’t hide his joy after Newcastle’s first goal.

The game was streamed on NUFC TV on Tuesday night, but now the club have released additional footage from the friendly in Portugal.

They have tweeted out a video of both of Almiron’s goals, filmed by the club’s media team from the touchline.

The clip reaffirms how good Almiron’s goals were – particularly the first one. He picks the ball up so deep and drives at the Benfica defence, then combines with Trippier to draw his side level.

It was a fantastic team goal, and one that delighted Trippier. The 31-year-old was very passionate in his celebration considering it was just a friendly.

The pair immediately celebrated together, jumping up and down before the other Toon players arrive. Then Trippier makes a point to congratulate Almiron again, clearly very happy with his teammate’s contribution.

It was a great goal, and they combined again for the second. It’s good to see these partnerships forming, and it should serve us well going into the new season.

Trippier is a top class player, and has not dropped his standard since coming to Newcastle. Instead, he’s making his teammates raise theirs. It happened with Ryan Fraser last season, and now it’s happening with Almiron.

Hopefully this is the start of an exciting partnership, and we see more Miggy and Tripps inspired goals in the Premier League.
