Newcastle United made it four wins in four games on Sunday, beating Southampton 4-1 thanks to some brilliant goals on a wet afternoon on the south coast.

Eddie Howe’s side put the Saints to the sword, with goals from Miguel Almiron, Chris Wood, Joe Willock and Bruno Guimaraes.

The result extends Newcastle’s glorious run, and lifts them to third in the Premier League table. That’s right – third.

After 14 games, the Magpies have only been beaten once. Going into the Christmas break, we will definitely be in the top four.

Newcastle’s spectacular start is continuing, and these are our player ratings from the 4-1 win vs Southampton

Nick Pope 7/10

Made some smart saves, but will be very disappointed not to be returning north with another clean sheet. The only blemish on a great day for Newcastle.

Kieran Trippier 8/10

It’s an absolute honour to watch Kieran Trippier play for Newcastle United. His assist for Joe Willock was magnificent, with the right-back’s vision and weight of pass absolutely perfect.

Fabian Schar 8/10

Shook off an injury scare to play the full 90 minutes, and produced some wonderful blocks and clearances in front of his own goal. Provided the foundation for another win.

Sven Botman 7/10

Sloppily gave possession away a couple of times, but defended resolutely throughout. His recent form could take him to Qatar later this month.

Dan Burn 7/10

Solid once again at left-back, giving Gareth Southgate food for thought as he watched on from the stands.

Sean Longstaff 7/10

Absolutely everywhere. Did everything that was asked of him in the middle of the park, and played a big role in Newcastle’s first goal.

Bruno Guimaraes 8/10

We saw a different side to Bruno Guimaraes’ game at St Mary’s. The 24-year-old was excellent defensively, snapping into tackles and protecting the defence. He was also able to build attacks from deep, as we saw for Willock’s goal. Bruno took his goal brilliantly too, and paid tribute to his new baby boy during the celebrations.

Joe Willock 8/10

A wonderous performance from Willock, who got the goal that has been missing from his recent performances. Outstanding from the Magpies’ number 28.

Miguel Almiron 8/10

Seven goals in seven games from the Paraguayan, who is a completely different player this season. Took his goal brilliantly, as his outstanding run continues.

Jacob Murphy 6/10

The 27-year-old played his part in Chris Wood’s goal, but was largely ineffective after being recalled to the starting XI in Joelinton’s absence.

Callum Wilson 6/10

A quiet 45 minutes for Callum Wilson before being replaced by Wood at half time. Luckily, he was withdrawn due to illness rather than injury.
