Steve Bruce tried a different system against Burnley, and it certainly improved things.
While Newcastle didn’t do enough to win, the performance was a lot better than it has been in recent weeks.
Miguel Almiron was handed a completely different role against the Clarets, and he definitely impressed.
The Paraguayan was playing centrally, just off Dwight Gayle. It allowed him to get in much more dangerous positions, having struggled out on the right.
He had one of our best chances of the game, but his tame effort was easily saved by Nick Pope in the first half.
And as always, he didn’t stop running.
Almiron looked so much more comfortable in the middle. And if he’d had a bit more quality around him then maybe we could have won it.
With Allan Saint-Maximin on the bench, the pressure was really on Almiron to create things in the final third.
And while he wasn’t able to provide the moment of quality needed, fans were certainly impressed with his efforts.
