Newcastle United have scored nine goals this season, five of which have came from defenders.
It was the centre-backs who dominated against West Ham, with Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez handing the Magpies a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Those goals came after Jamaal Lascelles crashed home a header against Wolves last week, a goal that was actually set up by Fernandez.
And earlier in the season we saw Fabian Schar and Jetro Willems get on the scoresheet too. DeAndre Yedlin nearly did against the Hammers, but his strike was rightly ruled out for offside.
Newcastle’s attackers have been struggling, so it’s a good job the defenders know where the back of the net is. Against West Ham, forwards Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron squandered multiple chances, which fortunately didn’t come back to haunt us.

The defenders came up with goods once again, with the duo’s goals getting us on the way to a vital win in the capital.
Florian Lejeune and Schar should get into this team with ease when they’re fit as the rest of the defence clearly need to be up front!
