Chris Maguire scored the pick of the goals as Sunderland beat Newcastle Under 21s 4-0 in the Checkatrade trophy.
The 29-year-old captained the Black Cats, and has become a fan favourite since arriving from Bury over the summer. Dubbed ‘king’ by Sunderland supporters, Maguire has been key to their promotion charge.
But while his goal was a sweet strike, some Newcastle supporters could only laugh at his celebration. After killing off any hopes of a Magpies comeback, Maguire cupped his ear then put his finger to his lips, shushing the travelling Newcastle supporters up in the top tier of the Stadium of Light.

He was Sunderland’s oldest outfield player on the night, which made his celebration even funnier for Toon supporters.

While some might see it as banter, the joke was never really on Newcastle last night. This was our youth side competing against our biggest rivals’ first-team in a competition they’re only involved in because they’ve dropped into League One.
Newcastle couldn’t really lose last night. If we had won it would have been hilarious, but the odds were always against us so victory was never expected.
But if that’s what gives Maguire his kicks, good luck to him.
