Newcastle United fans have been reacting to Dylan Stephenson’s performance for the U23s.
Chris Hogg’s side were in Premier League 2 Division 2 action against Birmingham City at Nuneaton Borough’s Liberty Way.
It was an emphatic performance from the Toon youngsters, who ran out 4-0 winners.
Charlie Wiggett, signed this summer, got the ball rolling before Stephenson struck shortly before half-time after a good ball from Matt Bondswell.
Life was made a little easier for Newcastle when Rico Browne was sent off for Birmingham following a last-man challenge on Joe White.
Caolan Boyd-Munce then scored an own goal for the Blues, before Stephenson rounded things off by sliding the ball home from close-range for his brace.
It’s been a great start to the season for Stephenson, who has three goals from his first two games.
The Blyth-born winger’s development will be under close inspection this season.
The star regularly caught the eye last term, his FA Youth Cup first-half hat-trick against Leeds United a particular highlight.
He is seen as one of the best prospects at the club, and it remains to be seen if a first-team chance will be in the offing.
On social media, some Toon fans lauded Stephenson following his two goals against Birmingham:
