Newcastle’s under-23 outfit were beaten 2-1 by Leeds United this afternoon. After the game, supporters took to Twitter to discuss Christian Atsu.

The Ghanaian winger played in his second game for the under-23 team and helped himself to his first goal of the campaign.

Atsu has been at St James’ Park for nearly five years, signing for the club from Chelsea in 2016, initially on loan.

In 121 games for the club he has bagged eight goals and claimed 10 assists but has only featured in one Carabao Cup game this season.

The 29-year-old will likely depart in the summer when his contract expires.

For now, however, he is trying to build up some confidence ahead of the next chapter of his career, wherever that might be.

The £30,000-a-week flyer will have welcomed a return to the score-sheet and here is what Newcastle supporters had to say on Twitter.
