Newcastle United came from behind to beat Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor, in what was an absolutely huge victory for the club and Steve Bruce.

The Magpies knew what they had to do having seen Fulham fall to defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday, and took all three points in Lancashire.

The visitors again showed enough heart and grit to come from behind and get the job done, and Bruce deserves credit for some great substitutions.

Newcastle fell behind in the first-half when Chris Wood crossed for Matej Vydra to tap home.

Early in the second-half, Bruce sent on Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson in place of Joelinton and Dwight Gayle – and it was a move that completely changed the game.

Within minutes, Saint-Maximin provided a square pass for Jacob Murphy to finish into the far corner after making space well down the right side.

Saint-Maximin then got on the scoresheet himself – picking up the ball just inside his own half from Jonjo Shelvey between Burnley’s midfield and defence and driving towards goal.

The 24-year-old sold James Tarkowski a brilliant feint, before tucking a left-footed finish into the near corner.

Saint-Maximin’s cameo was a reminder just what a talented player he is, and Newcastle’s survival hopes are significantly boosted with him in the team and in form.
