Newcastle are through to the FA Cup quarter final. But in typical Newcastle fashion, it wasn’t easy.
The Magpies were 3-0 up not long into the second half, but endured a cagey end to the game as West Brom clawed two goals back.
The collapse takes the gloss off what is an excellent result. Newcastle are into the last eight of the competition and one game from Wembley.
Miguel Almiron bagged a brace, scoring two wonderful goals.
His first was set up by Allan Saint-Maximin with a lovely weighted pass, but his second involved a fantastic piece of skill from Joelinton.
Crowded in the box, the Brazilian pulled out a back heel from his box of tricks and found his teammate near the edge of the box. Almiron did the rest, rifling the ball home to make it 2-0.
Despite not getting a goal, it was another encouraging performance from the record signing.
And fair play to him for actually attempting that back heel. It was pretty audacious considering how wretched his form has been at times. Just imagine how fans would have reacted if it hadn’t found Almiron…
Fortunately it did, and Toon fans have been toasting a sublime piece of skill from the number nine.
Joelinton pulls out the tricks
Brilliant back heel by Joelinton to be fair. He had no idea Miggy was there but if you put the ball into a dangerous area then you deserve someone to get on the end of it. Miggy is much better in a central role #nufc
