Steve Bruce has confirmed that Newcastle have a long list of players who won’t feature in the League Cup against Leicester.
Speaking ahead of the game, Bruce told the club’s official website that he’ll be without Joelinton, Miguel Almiron, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, Christian Atsu and Allan Saint-Maximin.

So who does that leave us with? Well, a lot of fans are worried that forgotten man Jack Colback might get a run out.
Despite not being selected for the Premier League squad, players like Colback are still eligible to play in the League Cup. This means the likes of Rolando Aarons, Henri Saivet, Achraf Lazaar and Jamie Sterry could get a run out.
But is it likely? No. Bruce has made a big deal about taking the cups seriously, and picking players deemed not good enough for the Premier League would be a bit contradictory.

Even with all the injuries, Bruce still has a wealth of options to choose from. Jonjo Shelvey didn’t play against Tottenham, while Ki Sung-yueng and Matty Longstaff didn’t even make the bench. So those three players are ahead of Colback in the pecking order, as well as starters Isaac Hayden and Sean Longstaff.
But naturally, some fans are worried that the ‘ginger Pirlo’ might get a run out against Leicester on Wednesday night…

Absolutely expect a midfield four of Aarons, Colback, Saivet and Tranquillo Barnetta tomorrow night.

Am I right in thinking that Colback, Sterry, Saivet, Aarons and Lazaar are eligible for the cups?

I think we will see Aaron’s & Colback involved tomorrow. I can’t see Hayden starting after Sat. Shelvey & Matty Longstaff. If he isn’t going to play Matty in cup games it wouldn’t make sense not sending him on loan. Willems will start. Will be an interesting line up

Don’t worry, there’s always Jack Colback that we can rely on to get that WIN.
