Steve Bruce to make 8 changes: Predicted Newcastle lineup to face Burnley

Newcastle have a chance to kickstart their season on Wednesday night when they face Burnley in the Carabao Cup.

The Magpies have started the Premier League campaign with back-to-back defeats, so the League Cup might be a welcome distraction. Or it could be another disastrous 90 minutes for Steve Bruce.

But who will the Toon boss pick to face the Clarets a St James’ Park?

Cup action for Mark Gillespie

Ahead of the game, Bruce confirmed that Martin Dubravka will be out for another eight weeks, while Karl Darlow is still not fit.

Therefore, Freddie Woodman appears set to continue as number one in the Premier League.

However, Gillespie deserves some minutes in the cup. The 2020 signing played in the competition last season and did well at times.

Chance for Jamal Lewis against Burnley

While he looked decent in pre-season, Jamal Lewis is yet to feature so far in the Premier League.

However, Matt Ritchie has looked far from convincing at left wing-back.

This will be a big chance for Lewis, who could prove to Bruce that he should be starting with a strong performance in the cup.

All change in the middle for Newcastle

It will likely be all change in the middle of the park against Burnley. Jonjo Shelvey is still injured, while Isaac Hayden is now ruled out as well.

Sean Longstaff came off the bench against Villa and seems certain to start, while Bruce may opt to give Jeff Hendrick some minutes.

One player who seems very likely to start is Ryan Fraser, taking Miguel Almiron’s position on the left of the three.

The Scotland international has reportedly been learning how to play the role, and the game with Burnley could be his first chance from the start to prove what he’s learnt.

Can Joelinton get his first goal of the season?

Bruce confirmed that while he will make changes on Wednesday night, he will put out a strong team.

Therefore, we believe Callum Wilson will start. However, not alongside Allan Saint-Maximin.

Instead, Joelinton will get his first start of the season. The Brazilian scored twice in the Carabao Cup last year, and will be praying for more of the same.

Predicted Newcastle XI to face Burnley: Gillespie; Krafth, Lascelles, Clark; Murphy, Hendrick, Longstaff, Fraser, Lewis; Joelinton, Wilson.
