Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe knows he has a squad he can rely on, and no player sums that up better than Jacob Murphy.
The 28-year-old made his first Premier League start of the season against Crystal Palace, as Newcastle won 4-0 to move up to fifth in the table.
The emphatic result was largely down to Jacob Murphy‘s efforts, with the winger scoring one goal and providing two assists.
His goal was a bit of a fluke, but the two strikes that he setup were outstanding. His cross for Anthony Gordon was perfect, while he showcased brilliant vision to allow Callum Wilson to score his fifth goal of the season.
It was a surprise to see Murphy named in the Newcastle starting XI, but he more than justified his place in the side with a fantastic display. And it was a display that certainly delighted his manager.

Eddie Howe delighted with ‘reliable ‘enthusiastic’ Jacob Murphy vs Crystal Palace
After the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace, Howe spoke to NUFC TV. He was asked to give his thoughts on Murphy’s performance against the Eagles.
“Very good, very very good,” he said.
“I thought he gave us really good balance on that righthand side with Sean and Kieran. Thought they dovetailed and interlinked really well.
“He put some really good crosses in, scored the goal.
“As always with Jacob, he’s never let us down. Always enthusiastic. He plays different positions. He’s a huge member of our squad.”

Murphy is Newcastle’s Mr Reliable
A few years ago, the thought of Jacob Murphy starting a Premier League game used to cause panic among Toon fans. But that is not the case at all in 2023.
Instead, he is a player who has improved massively under Eddie Howe, and someone who the manager completely trusts.
No matter what he is asked to do, Murphy always delivers. He is not a regular starter, but he is certainly a key member of the squad. That was proven earlier this season when Howe decided to start him in the Champions League against AC Milan.
Newcastle are back in UCL action on Wednesday night, with Borussia Dortmund due to arrive at St James’ Park. It is set to be another tantalising fixture, and one that Murphy may feel he should start after his man of the match performance against Crystal Palace.
