Newcastle might have a secret weapon up their sleeves when they take on Arsenal on Sunday.

Whenever a former Sunderland player turns up at St James’ Park, he gets booed throughout.

Jordan Pickford is public enemy number one when he’s in between the sticks, and it’s only the past few games that our taunts have got the better of the England international.

The antagonist of the piece can create a poisonous and feisty atmosphere inside a stadium, and this is something Newcastle can do on Sunday.

Arsenal’s biggest rivals are Tottenham. And interestingly, we signed two former Spurs players in January.

Danny Rose and Nabil Bentaleb should both start the game, and their past could allow them to play a big role.

The Emirates crowd can be an interesting one. They’ve turned on their own players in recent times, which Granit Xhaka can verify.

The atmosphere can be feisty, especially if there are former Spurs players on the field.

Rose and Bentaleb must make the most of the opportunity when they can. Be it winning free kicks, putting in tackles, winding up the opposition, anything they can do to irritate the Arsenal faithful.

It may sound petty, but it’s not like our brand of football is going to win us the game.

It might even backfire, as an angry Arsenal crowd might spur their players on to victory. Or it could go the other way. It’s certainly worth a shot…
