Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley’s husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi showed the players just how much the 6-1 win over Tottenham meant to him at full-time.
Mehrdad Ghodoussi has well and truly fallen in love with Newcastle since he and his wife bought into the club with the PIF and the Reubens. He and Amanda have been the faces of the takeover since day one and are ever-present across all the club business.
After today’s massive 6-1 win, the official NUFC Instagram posted a video of Mehrdad hugging every one of the Newcastle players as they came off the pitch and headed down the tunnel.
Mehrdad made sure nobody was left out
Bruno Guimaraes almost stole the show doubling back to the camera to shout “Vamos”, but the moment truly belongs to Mehrdad.
Him descending from the director’s box to come down to pitch-side isn’t so rare, but being very adamant that every player got shown some love on the touchlines, that seems new.

Could you imagine Mike Ashley or one of his cronies doing that? I mean, probably not because it’s hard enough just trying to imagine a win under that regime, but still.
The relationships that flow through Newcastle are key to its success
The passion that courses through the veins of the Newcastle fans now flows through the players, the manager and the board. It’s a connection that was missing for so long and it’s still pretty jarring to see it. It’s wonderful and I love it, but it still feels so alien.
Thanks to all of that passion, all of that connection from top to bottom, Newcastle are now so close to qualifying for the Champions League in the new ownership’s first season in charge. I don’t think anyone dreamt that this would happen so quickly, even the owners themselves.
The scenes when Champions League qualification is assured are going to be absolutely mind-blowing.
