Mehrdad Ghodoussi delivers five-word message to Newcastle’s Callum Wilson

Callum Wilson scored on his Newcastle United return on Saturday, and the striker has received a message from co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi.

The 30-year-old was back in the starting lineup after a six-week absence, with his last appearance coming against Manchester City.

But the Magpies’ number nine returned at the perfect time, with his comeback coinciding with Alexander Isak’s injury.

Wilson was straight back into the starting XI against Fulham, and was able to have an impact. He scored the opening goal of the game – even if he did steal it from teammate Joe Willock.

The Newcastle midfielder’s header looked to be going in, only for Wilson to pounce on the line. It was his third goal of the season, and it will be the easiest one he ever scores in Newcastle colours.

But the main thing is that he is back and scoring.

Ghodoussi’s message to Wilson after 4-1 win over Fulham

After the game, Wilson took to social media to comment on the victory.

He wrote on Twitter: “Enjoyable day of football today! Back playing, 3 points and a goal, what an assist by my brother Joe Willock.”

Obviously the comment about Willock is tongue-in-cheek, who ended the afternoon with two assists rather than a goal and an assist thanks to Wilson’s poaching ability.

But that doesn’t matter – as long as it goes in, it doesn’t matter who scores it.

Wilson will be ecstatic to add to his personal tally, and he received a reply to his tweet from Toon co-owner Ghodoussi.

He responded: “Good to have you back.”

Ghodoussi’s five-word message will resonate with every Newcastle fan. It is fantastic to have Wilson back in the side and scoring.

He was a big miss during his injury absence, and it was a real blow to suffer a fitness problem so early into the season. Wilson has been plagued with problems, earning him the reputation of being injury prone.

But when he is fit, he is a goalscoring machine – although not quite on the same level as Erling Haaland.

While the Manchester City man tops the charts with 14 Premier League goals, Wilson will be happy with his tally of three in four.

Hopefully this is the start of a goal glut from Wilson, who will know he needs to score consistently to have any chance of going to the World Cup.

There will be pressure on him to do that for Newcastle, especially with club record signing Isak now injured.
