Newcastle’s final home game of the season sees them welcome title-chasing Liverpool to St James’ Park.

The Reds are currently a point behind Manchester City, needing a slip up from Pep Guardiola’s men if they are to have any chance of winning the league.

In fact, this incredible season for Liverpool could end without a trophy, as last night they were beaten 3-0 by Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final.

Jurgen Klopp’s side played well but didn’t take their chances, eventually being punished by Lionel Messi. His second half goals may have put the tie beyond Liverpool.

And while a second-leg comeback isn’t out of the question, Andy Robertson is already focused on another tough game this weekend.

Robertson hails Newcastle

Speaking after the Barcelona defeat, Robertson told Liverpool’s official website: “We need to go to Newcastle, get our legs ready first and foremost and they are in a great run of form, so we need to be at our best there and then we can worry about Barcelona.

“But our focus is now on Newcastle.”

This kind of response is to be expected. Every game matters for them, as they go in search of an almost impossible double.

Our season is over, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t a threat. We’ve played really well in recent weeks and should’ve picked up a hat-trick of wins against Brighton last time out.

Liverpool will come out all guns blazing, searching for a reaction after their biggest defeat of the season.

They will know what they are up against though. Rafa Benitez is a master tactician, capable of setting his team up to stop the opposition. He did it against Manchester City and there’s no reason he can’t do it against his former employers.
