Liverpool have injury worries ahead of tonight’s game with Newcastle.

Naby Keita is definitely missing after going off injured against Barcelona, but the Reds might also be without Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian forward missed the 5-0 win over Huddersfield, then started on the bench in the Champions League.

When asked about Firmino’s fitness ahead of the Newcastle game, Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool’s official website: “We will see.”

Firmino is key to how Liverpool play, so his potential absence could really hinder them. He defends from the front and often sets the tone.

Klopp’s team like to play high up the pitch and will look to put pressure on the likes of Fabian Schar when he is in possession. But without Firmino, they lose something offensively.

Their other attacking options are Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge, with the latter rejecting a move to St James’ Park last January. Neither can do what Firmino does, which might help Newcastle.

Liverpool have had some good news on the injury front, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back in the fold.

“It’s very good that Ox is there and he will be for sure in the squad. Then we have to make a decision who starts,” Klopp said.

No matter who Klopp picks, Newcastle are going to be up against it. Liverpool are chasing the Premier League title and anything but a win will pretty much end their hopes.

But St James’ Park should be buzzing regardless. It’s the final home game of the season. Rafa Benitez sounds a bit more upbeat about his future. If we can start well, then we might be able to get something out of the game.
